This situation was a little unique for me because we ended up having to scan the original 5×7 picture, then upload it to the computer so that I then could start working on it.  We had no record of this picture as an actual “jpeg” so we had to get a little creative to make this all possible.

Now, for me as an photo editor this is a bit of a concern because anytime you scan a picture it loses a great deal of quality which in turn makes my job harder to do.  You’ll notice in the first picture that when you zoom in you see a lot of brown, grainy little dots all over the picture.  In photography, and videography for that matter, this is what we call “noise” or distortion or low resolution.  Distortion is something we do not want because this is considered low quality and is what makes the difference between amateurs and professionals.

Nonetheless, as you can see in the final image I was able to substantially improve the quality so that now it has that clean, professional look as if it were taken and processed at a high resolution.

Simply what this means is that if you have any old photos from years and years ago like polaroids or black/whites and would like to have them enhanced in any way, then this post if for you…
